What are you wearing today?

If you read up on streetwear and fashion forums you'll know
there's always this thread called "What are you wearing today?",
where people post pics of themselves and their gear to seek
validation from the other hipsters on the forum. DBTHB had a
comment on this the other day...

"There's something to be said about actually going on the hunt
to find cool and exclusive stuff. Yes, it helps to lend to your
individuality and sense of non-conformity (even though all of
you all-over-print, limited edition SBs, tight Levis wearing
fucks look the same). However, all that shit goes out the
window when you go home and take pictures of yourself to
post on forums. It's amazing how many pages are dedicated
to "look at my outfit and how fly I am", there are on streetwear
sites.

Did you (and you know who you are) get up, get dressed and
take a flick of yourself so you could impress other guys?

If Married to the Mob is right that "Men are the New Women",
then you boys are the new bitches."

The truth has got to hurt. Yeah, I write a blog, so I guess I'm
out there exposing myself as well, but I am surprised as to
how caught up people get in this exposure- and validationtrip
that a lot are on. And that goes far beyond writing blogs and posting on web forums. This last year several people I know
of have had sextapes or pics floating around the internet.
Just because Paris did it, doesn't mean you should do it.
What ever happened to some fucking shyness and anonymity?

All publicity is definitely not good publicity.
