Elbow Toe

He might be the new guy on the scene when it comes to
street artists, but he is gaining momentum - fast!

Elbow Toe.

Eduardo Recife has a new site up

My number one guy, Eduardo Recife, has put up a new site at
eduardorecife.com, where he presents his commercial work.
His personal work can be found at misprintedtype.com

Go get inspired!

Here are a few samples of illustration stills he made for TCM:

Time to stop buying BAPE once and for all

Nigo is getting way too rich! He lives in a $30 million home in
Roppongi Hills, Tokyo, he went and got himself diamond teeth,
he collects everything form Eames furniture, to original Star
Wars and Planet of the Apes full-size figures... But let's focus
on his cars. Until the other day he had these cars:

2001 Mercedes Benz G-500
2002 Bentley Continental Mulliner Edition
2002 Aston Martin Vanquish
2002 Brabus MBZ CL600
2002 Benz S55
2002 Benz SL55
2002 Ferrari 360 Spider
2002 Ferrari 360 Modena
2003 Lamborghini Murcielago
2004 Hummer
2004 Lamborghini Gallardo
2004 Rolls-Royce Phantom
2005 Bentley Continental GT
2005 Ferrari Enzo
2005 Porsche Carrera GT
2005 Benz SLR Mclaren

The Phantom is, of course, painted in his own camo pattern:

But realizing he needed a new car, he went and got a Veyron,
painted in pink bape camo. The guy has gone mental.

Shoes for the winter

Ok, I need your help deciding which shoes to buy for the
winter. The problem is, it's hard to find shoes that can
endure the norwegian winter and at the same time make
me look cool. And I suppose that stems from the probable
fact that most shoe designers live way south of the polar
circle, so they frankly don't give a shit about me and my
issues. I have found three nice options, but I need help
deciding between them. Here they are:

Short news flash

Bread & Butter Berlin is cancelled. Read more at nitro:licious.

What are you wearing today?

If you read up on streetwear and fashion forums you'll know
there's always this thread called "What are you wearing today?",
where people post pics of themselves and their gear to seek
validation from the other hipsters on the forum. DBTHB had a
comment on this the other day...

"There's something to be said about actually going on the hunt
to find cool and exclusive stuff. Yes, it helps to lend to your
individuality and sense of non-conformity (even though all of
you all-over-print, limited edition SBs, tight Levis wearing
fucks look the same). However, all that shit goes out the
window when you go home and take pictures of yourself to
post on forums. It's amazing how many pages are dedicated
to "look at my outfit and how fly I am", there are on streetwear
sites.

Did you (and you know who you are) get up, get dressed and
take a flick of yourself so you could impress other guys?

If Married to the Mob is right that "Men are the New Women",
then you boys are the new bitches."

The truth has got to hurt. Yeah, I write a blog, so I guess I'm
out there exposing myself as well, but I am surprised as to
how caught up people get in this exposure- and validationtrip
that a lot are on. And that goes far beyond writing blogs and posting on web forums. This last year several people I know
of have had sextapes or pics floating around the internet.
Just because Paris did it, doesn't mean you should do it.
What ever happened to some fucking shyness and anonymity?

All publicity is definitely not good publicity.

The Thief Print

Nice. A present from myself to myself dropped in the mail
yesterday, the Thief print by Zack Johnsen - no 8 of 50. I'm
really satisfied with how it turned out. $30 at Tank Theory.

The master of movement

A parisian living in New York, Wk Interact brings a distinct style
to his art. First of all, there is the portrayal of movement. But
just as creative and innovative is his choice of canvases. They
say great art is in the composition, and the uneven surfaces
he chooses as his canvas makes his work truly interesting.

The Death Watch

In these times where skulls are popping up everywhere, it's
nice to see that people had a grim view on life 200 years
ago as well. Made in 1810 - the Memento Mori death watch.
18k gold, diamond verge. Sold for $16000.

The shoes I'll never get

I feel heartbroken by the fact that I'll never wear these shoes.
Absolutely ridiculous, in the best possible way. These shoes are
of a collaboration involving Converse and Couleur* a la mode,
which is a small japanese brand started by fashion student
Masami Kobayashi. Each shoe is an original Converse which is
remade by hand by Couleur* a la mode. So ridiculously limited
that the price just isn't of any importance - goodbye shoes!

Thanks to Djrajio for pics and info.

Yet another magazine subscription

These folk's got style! Metrodotpop magazine. Must-have lists
from heaven. Great photo series. I picked the magazine up
for the first time at ISA in Brooklyn (Isa Saalabis store, which
is now Nom De Guerre) a year and a half ago, and it was like
no fashion magazine I had ever seen before at that time.

Must keep reading

I don't know why there's a girl on the cover, as this is a new
magazine which presents a selection of the latest men's
products in a photo based catalogue format. Brands included
in issue #1 includes: Number (N)ine, Mastermind Japan, KVK,
J.P.1920, Libertine, Yohji Yamamoto, Marc Jacobs, Karl
Lagerfeld, Devilock, Surface 2 Air, Garni, Roar, Buddhist punk,
Cloak, Engineered Garments, Nike, Adidas and Polo.

Fuco Ueda

Beautiful, yet disturbing. Japanese artists often have a unique
sense of style. It might just be me that has seen a couple too
many japanese horror movies, but there is something creepy
about these paintings. Acrylic on linen by Fuco Ueda.

A little treat for you

I fell in love with this tune which was featured on Gilles
Peterson's Box of Delights. It's only out on test printings as
far as I know, but you can check out more about the
musician here. I love all about this song, but what really
makes it stand out for me is from the break and out.

Pure brilliance.

Soundtrack to my life

To my very pleasant surprise, Gilles Peterson is coming to Blå
here in Oslo next saturday for a dj gig. He is the number one
guy I look up to when it comes to music. Musical taste is, as
pretty much everything else in life, a learning process. And
Gilles Peterson is the master. He has endless knowledge of
music from so many different genres. One minute he is playing
some unreleased Roots or Justin song, and the next he is
playing caribbean folk music or some african jazz band you
would never have heard of unless for him playing it. And that
is when you realize that good music comes from everywhere,
and all sorts of genres, you just need to learn what to listen for.

Here are the top gems in my music collection:

Diplo & Tripledouble - Aeiou I & II
Pro Celebrity Golf & Jay Glaze - Three Sinister Syllables
Monkone - Breakin' Rocks
Mike the 2600 King - Heavy Session
RJD2 - Your Face or Your Kneecaps

I do have a lot of respect for what the A-Traks and Q-Berts out
there are doing technically, but the mixes listed above are the
best mixtapes out there, in my opinion. Although, there's a lot of
good stuff coming from these guys as well; Nick Catchdubs, DK,
Spank Rock, Ayres, DJ Eleven, DJ Moneyshot, DJ Oof, Spinbad,
Black Grass, Mark Ronson, Low Budget, Aaron LaCrate, Cosmo
Baker, Boca 45, Der Vinylizer, DJ Shadow, J.Mountain, Small
Change, Arthur King and Neil Armstrong. Many mentioned, many
forgotten.

All that set aside, I'm really a rocker which runs around listening
to everything from Slayer to Test Icicles to Forward Russia to
Death From Above. Of course, that's when I'm not listening to
jazz, world music, hip hop, electro, broken beat or something
else that suits my mood...

Eduardo Recife

Time for one of my absolute favorites through the last 6-7 years,
Eduardo Recife. His site is not updated as regularly as it used to,
but his stuff is amazing. Be it illustrations, photos, fonts,
- or his collages! The only thing that annoys me is the way he
makes you feel inadequate and untalented since he was doing
such crazy stuff at age 18-19 (see his early works).

Raw, intriguing and great composition

Not exactly a "best kept secret" anylonger, as he is gaining huge
rep, but I have to include him. Boogie. Gotta love him.

And for you retailers, check this pic from Slamjam Milano. Nice.
